Immigration Check-In will be available at each of the above mentioned International Student Orientations. If you cannot make one of these sessions you must report to the International Office to complete immigration check-in.
U.S.immigration regulation states all F-1 and J-1 visitors attending Northwestern are REQUIRED to "check-in" at the Evanston International Office (630 Dartmouth Place Evanston IL 60208) or our Chicago Office (710 N Lake Shore Drive 1012 Abbott Hall Chicago IL 60611) within five days of your arrival on campus or at your predetermined check-in session.
A registration hold has been placed on all incoming international students. This registration hold prohibits a student from enrolling in classes until he/she has checked in the International Office.
Please bring the following original documents with you for Check-In:
All students are required to complete the International Student Check-In Form. Please print and complete this form before you come to the International Office for check-in.
International students are required to provide a U.S. address at the time of Check-In.
Note: For those of you who are familiar with the previous paper-based I-94 system, there is a new electronic I-94 process. When you enter the U.S. through a port of entry, you will no longer receive a paper I-94 card. An electronic copy of the I-94 will be available after your arrival to the U.S. on-line at www.cbp.gov/I94. This electronic copy will be printable and necessary when proving immigration status or applying for benefits such as driver’s license or Social Security number. We highly recommend that you print a copy of each I-94 record shortly after your arrival to ensure that you are maintaining a record of this travel.
All international students are required by U.S. federal immigration regulation to maintain a permanent foreign and U.S. address. At Northwestern, F-1 and J-1 students are required to maintain Current and Permanent Address types in CAESAR as these addresses are automatically reported from CAESAR to SEVIS. Please note that your Permanent Address must not be your US Address and you must keep a valid foreign address listed.
