Hi guys, I'm Lisa! Where I'm from is a little complicated, so let's just say I'm Ghanaian, but I've lived in several places (if you're bored enough feel free to google Third Culture Kid since that's basically what I am). I like colorful things and emoticons (I'm a part of the Happiness Club so I guess that make sense lol), watching TV (Game of Thrones or Scandal anyone?), sleeping in, and playing basketball (when I can). But yes, I'm looking forward to being your IPA! My advice to you right now: relax, enjoy your summer, GET PUMPED, and see you in September!
I’m Connor Steelberg, a rising junior in Weinberg. I was born in France to two Americans and spent my entire life living in the western suburbs of Paris, where I went to the Lycée International de St. GermainenLaye. I'm a Poli Sci Major with a minor in the Business Institutions Program. I'm incredibly excited to be coming back to help build lasting bonds among the members of the international community.
Hi, my name is Adam Pecena and I come from the beautiful city of Prague, Czech Republic. I'm majoring in Communication Studies and Economics with a certificate in Integrated Marketing Communications and I'm very excited to be an IPA this year because the international experience at Northwestern is so unique and taking part in making yours as good as possible is an honor, and I also see it as giving back for all the great support and friendship I have received from internationals over the years. In my free time, I like to go to all kinds of cultural events, play soccer, talk about or play videogames, and follow the latest tech trends.
Astrid Chun Li Goh
HI! My name is Astrid and I’m currently a freshman (Class of ’17). I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but am now currently living in Bangkok, Thailand. I’m a double major in Journalism & Economics. I’m so excited to be an IPA not only due to the fact that I’ll get to help you all transition into a new college experience with my friends, but I also get to meet so many new people from across the globe! A somewhat interesting fact—my stomach is a bottomless pit and I’m on a constant prowl for food. HIT ME UP IF YOU WANT TO EAT. Also, my friend (on the ISO exec board) Olatunde Okeowo used to own a giraffe. You’ll meet him if he’s not too shy. CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU ALL!!!
My name is Dino and I come from a small town in central Bosnia and Herzegovina. I'm interested in coding and other tech stuff and will most likely be doing a double major in Computer Science and Economics. Prior to coming to Northwester, I attended UWC Mostar where I gained valuable experiences and insights through interactions with other international students and grown fond of building an international community. Ohh, and I play handball with the Inter Chicago Handball Team.
Hey everyone! My name's Tony Tao, I'm a freshman, and I was born in upstate New York. When I was 10, I moved to Tokyo where I lived for 5 years. Then I moved again, this time to Shanghai for 2 years, where I graduated high school. I'm a Mechanical Engineering/Economics double major. I'm excited to be an IPA so I can help out my fellow international peers. A couple quick fun facts about me: 1.) I lived in Tokyo but I absolutely hate sushi and raw fish in general. 2.) I'm a god at Tetris so hmu if you wanna tussle.
Hey guys! I’m Joanna and I’m a sophomore studying Economics from Vancouver, Canada! On campus, I play on the club basketball team, I’m involved in ISBE as part of the Minority Business Association, and I work at the Office of Alumni Relations. I’m really excited to be an IPA and meet all the incoming international students in our community!
Hi, I'm Kevin Liou, a sophomore studying Applied Math. I was born in Cleveland, moved to Chicago when I was one, and then moved to Taipei, Taiwan when I was six. I am very excited to meet everyone, especially international students, since we all share a very similar background. Outside of classes, I am involved in the Taiwanese American Student Club, scientific research, Alpha Kappa Psi, a business club called Northwestern Student Holdings, and the Club Badminton team. In my spare time, I love to play basketball, read, eat, sing, and make people listen to me sing.
My name is Christina Hadley and I have actually lived in America my entire life. I was born in California and moved to Michigan, where I now live, when I was six. I am so excited to be an IPA and have the opportunity to get to know incoming students from such diverse backgrounds. I am a rising sophomore at Northwestern and am planning on studying economics. I am involved in IMG (an investment group on campus), Delta Zeta sorority, and play for the women’s club rugby team. I love Northwestern and cannot wait to share my school pride with new wildcats!
Aman Parikh is an Indian who was brought up in Antwerp, Belgium. He is a sophomore who is studying Industrial Engineering and Economics. He is excited to meet all the international freshmen and help them settle in to life to at Northwestern!
Hi! I’m Olivia Tan. I’m from Auckland, New Zealand. I am a rising sophomore currently studying Communication Studies and Economics. Although I am Chinese ethnically I am also 1/8 Persian. I’m thrilled to show international new students what a wonderful school NU is, and how ISO have made my experience here even more effortless. If you join my PA group we will most likely spend a lot of our times at restaurants and dining halls, since my high metabolism makes me hungry every 2 or 3 hours. I can’t wait to meet you all in the fall and welcome you into the international community!
My name is Heather Budimulia and I’m a rising sophomore majoring in journalism and international studies. I’m from Singapore but lived in Beijing for 10 years so I consider that home and miss it incredibly. Some of the best conversations I’ve had on campus resulted from ISO either directly or indirectly, making me excited to hear more stories (everyone has one!) and get to know you all better.
My name is Saskia Wiesebron, I am a rising sophomore in Weinberg currently undecided. I am half Dutch half American born and raised in the western suburbs of Paris. I am super excited to be an IPA because ISO was the best part of orientation, so be prepared!
Hey guys! My name is Carol Schivartche and I am a rising sophomore from São Paulo, Brazil. I am in the School of Communication, majoring in Communication Studies and aspire to be a TV sitcom producer. Although I was born in and have always lived in São Paulo, I have Cuban, Spanish, Turkish and German backgrounds! I am so excited for ISO because that is where I met a lot of my best friends at Northwestern. On campus, I am a part of the International Student Association and World Cup! Interesting fact about me? I was in the Israeli army for all of 10 whole days.
Hi, I'm Dixon, a freshman from Singapore pursuing a double major in Industrial Engineering & Manufacturing and Design Engineering (MaDE). It would be pretty accurate to describe myself as a budding globetrotter as traveling to every continent is one of my current goals. Regardless of where you come from, I am psyched to get to know you and to invite you the vibrant international student community here at Northwestern. I look forward to seeing you at ISO 2014!
Aditya is a junior double majoring in Mathematical Models in the Social Sciences (MMSS) and Economics, minoring in Chinese. Originally born in India, he has since gone on to live in England, South Africa, Czech Republic, Indonesia and most recently Singapore, which he now considers home. He enjoys DJing, eating good food, spending time with his friends and can't wait to be an IPA for a second year, something he describes as being one of his best experiences on campus.
Wanatip Nirundonpruk also known as Bee, Baybee or Beetip is a sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand. She is in McCormick but she has no idea what she wants to major in. She is excited to be an IPA because meeting incoming freshmen is super rad. Her hobbies are eating, sleeping and singing but she's a terrible singer. She also enjoys crappy shows like the Vampire Diaries and the Bachelor.
Sofia Lopez Franco
My name is Sofia Lopez Franco and I am a rising sophomore in the Weinberg School of Arts and Sciences where I plan to major in Political Science. I was born in Mexico City, Mexico, but lived in San Antonio, Texas for many years of my life. Lara Saldanha doesn’t know where she’s from since she was born in Japan, is of Indian origin, lived in the United States for ten years, and also lived in the Philippines, Singapore, and Geneva, Switzerland most recently. A rising senior, Lara is a piano performance major in Bienen and Economics major in Weinberg, Lara loves to sing obnoxiously, read, run if she's not feeling particularly lazy, play the piano when everyone else is asleep, eat spicy food and sinful amounts of Swiss chocolate, travel, and, most importantly, sleep. She loves all things international and so is very excited to be part of the ISO exec board this year and to meet the new international students!
Hi! My name is Tiffany. I am a rising senior studying Economics and Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences. I was born and raised in China and went to high school in Memphis, Tennessee. Her hobbies include music, photography, tennis, and food.
Bruno Peynetti was born in Mexico City, where he lived for 15 years before moving to Geneva, Switzerland. He is a junior in McCormick double majoring in Computer Engineering and Economics. He has an obsession with world geography and random international facts. Bruno is a member of ISA and NUMUN, and spends quality time at the library, just like most engineering students. His ultimate goal is to visit 100 countries before the year 2040.
Jake is one of the rare Americans in ISA, but calling him that is very deceiving. Although he’s from the States, Jake has lived overseas since he was two, and has lived in the US, India, Denmark, Switzerland and most recently the Philippines. He is a Computer Engineering student in McCormick. In his free time, he plays baseball, enjoys playing and listening to music, and loves to travel and hang out with friends. While he may seem very American, Jake is probably more Asian than you are, so beware.
Carla Garcia was born and raised in Manila, Philippines, but is also of Spanish and Belgian descent. She is currently a freshman at the Medill School of Journalism, Media, and Integrated Marketing Communications. Aside from ISA, Carla is involved with NU World Cup and the interactive section of North by Northwestern. In her free time she enjoys singing, watching way too many TV shows, and eating peanut butter.
My name is Edwin Argueta. I’m a rising sophomore studying Chemical Engineering. My hometown is San Pedro Sula, Honduras. I am Aashrey Tiku, and I live in New Delhi, India. I’m a Sophomore, majoring in Economics and the Kellogg Certificate. I’m very excited about being an IPA and really looking forward to meet new freshman from all over the world. I had a great time during ISO last year, and became friends with people from a lot of different countries. As an IPA, I hope to be not just a guide but also a friend to all the new students and make their transition to college life smooth and fun.
Hi! I’m Parth Goel and I’m a sophomore in McCormick. I am double majoring in Industrial Engineering and Economics. My parents are from India but I spent my entire life in Dubai, UAE before coming to Northwestern. I’m looking forward to meeting the incoming class of international freshmen. I know I found a great community of people in the international crowd I met during ISO and that is why I’m excited to be an IPA and help the incoming students have a similar experience. One interesting thing about me is that all you freshmen are probably older than I am.
I’m Elliot Yucesan, one of the five coordinators of the 2014 International Student Orientation. I am a rising senior in McCormick majoring in Biomedical Engineering. A rising senior, I study Economics and MMSS here at Northwestern, and pretty much spend the rest of my time playing soccer or jamming on my guitar.
