As Assistant Director of Multicultural Student Affairs, Heatheris responsible for managing, developing and assessing programs and activities focusing on Identity Engagement. Some of her responsibilities will include Black History Month, Harambee, the congratulatory celebrations, and a new workshop on emotional intelligence through a lens of social justice. In addition, Heather works closely with many of our campus partners, especially CARE and Athletics, on improving the Black student experience. She advisse many of our student groups, including For Members Only: NU’s Black Student Alliance, the African Student Association, and CaribNation.

Originally from Sacramento, California, Heather earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with an emphasis in Latin American studies from California State University, Long Beach and a Master of Science in College Counseling and Student Development from Azusa Pacific University. Prior to joining Northwestern, Heather worked in Multicultural Affairs and Residence Life at several universities. She has been a facilitator for LeaderShape and the Student Social Justice Training Institute. She has a particular interest in helping others understand how their identities intersect and impact the experiences and success of students within the African diaspora and Student Affairs as a profession. She has served as the Communications & Publicity Chair for NASPA IV-West, and published and presented on the experiences of staff of color within the university setting. In her spare time, Heather enjoys travelling, running with her dog Vito Corleone, and exploring the foodie scene.
