Barcelona Summer Program (Language and Liberal Arts. Offers Intermediate, Advanced, and Superior Spanish)
Italian
Padova Summer Program (Language and Liberal Arts. Offers Intermediate and Advanced Italian)

Bayreuth Summer Program (Language intensive. Offers Intermediate, Advanced, and Superior German)

Montpellier Summer Program (Language intensive. Offers Intermediate and Advanced French)
Arles Summer Program (Language and Liberal Arts. Offers Advanced French)
Mandarin Chinese
China Summer Program (Students take Intensive Chinese Language and one of the following themes: Legal and Economic Structures, Science and Engineering Research, or Public Health)
Mandarin Chinese is taught up to seven levels on this program.
Non-Northwestern Summer Language Programs
(NU accepts credit for work done on most of these programs although they are not run by Northwestern; check with the Study Abroad Office for more specific information. In the past NU students have participated in almost all of the programs listed below.)

ALI is a language intensive division of the American University of Cairo
Please note: this is not currently a program NU accepts credit for although it is strongly recommended by Prof. Lynn Whitcomb. The Study Abroad Office is working with the Registrar to determine accreditation.

There are many more programs in Spain and Latin America ; these examples are just a few suggestions that NU students have completed in the past.
Italian
1. Lecce Summer Institute (8-week intensive Italian Program)
2. Linguadue Language Institute in Milan
There are more programs in Italian, but many are tourist traps – all Italian language proposals should be vetted carefully together with the Study Abroad Office and the Italian faculty (as is probably the case with all of these programs). Since Italy is such a summer tourist destination, one should be especially careful about any language institutes there.
German
