Policies and Procedures

This web site provides faculty and staff with a tool to quickly locate University policies and procedures for a variety of business and administrative functions. This tool consists of several search options that assist the user in linking to web sites containing University-wide policies and procedures. Where web sites do not exist, the user is provided with the department or office to contact for more information. Please note that the scope of this site is limited to University-wide policies and procedures applicable to faculty and staff; therefore all student, as well as school, department, and center specific policies and procedures are excluded.

Other Northwestern web sites, linked to from this site, are maintained by the department or office responsible for their administration or enforcement. These policy statements and procedures are subject to modification; therefore the user should consult the office listed under "Contact" to ensure that the policy statement is the most current formulation of that policy. All links originating from this web site are maintained by the contact listed at the bottom of this page. Faulty links found on department web sites should be reported to the particular department responsible for the web site.

While the links and references in this web site provide access to a broad range of administrative and business policies and procedures, faculty and staff should be aware that the site does not include a link or reference to every policy at the University.

Within each topic are various categories listed alphabetically.  The Policies and Procedures Site Index best represents the break down in categories.

Each Policy and Procedure:
Policies and procedures are listed in the following manner:

Policies and procedures that are on the web are underlined in navy blue (or light blue if already visited).  Some policies are not available on the web and the user must rely on the information listed under "Contact".  In the example below, clicking on the Security of Confidential Information policy will take the user to the web page or pdf file on which that policy is located.  The Guidelines on Exchanges of Information policy does not have a web page.

All policies and procedures are listed alphabetically by the exact policy name. Clicking on the policy or procedure name will take the user directly to the policy or procedure.

Department Index:
Policies and procedures are organized by department. Clicking on the department title will bring the user to the directory of information associated with that department. The policies and procedures with links will take you directly to that particular policy or procedure. Those policies and procedures without links will take you to the "Contact" information.

This page is organized in a table format with topics as the headings and categories listed beneath each topic.

Standards for Business Conduct
This document is intended to provide an overview of major policies that guide business conduct at Northwestern as well as to provide a reference for additional resources. While the subjects addressed cover a broad range of administrative and business topics, this booklet does not include a reference to every policy at the University.
