All new regular staff: exempt and nonexempt; research, academic, and administrative.
Northwestern University provides an orientation program to inform new employees of employment benefits, mission, philosophy, and other pertinent facts affecting employment.
Notice. New staff and their supervisors are contacted about the time, location, and date of the scheduled orientation. Written notification from the supervisor is required if an employee cannot attend the scheduled session for work related reasons. He or she must attend another session.
Record. At orientation, each individual fills out a card that serves as the record of attendance.
Printed information. Participants receive a packet of information covering a variety of University policies and benefit programs. Nonexempt nonunion employees receive the Northwestern University Staff Handbook and are required to sign a form acknowledging receipt. This form is filed in the personnel file.
