Incidental Sick Time (IST) FAQs

How many Incidental Sick Time (IST) days will I have beginning September 1, 2012?

Eighteen (18) sick days will be available as of September 1, 2012. This will reduce to 15 days for fiscal year 2014 (9/1/2013-8/31/2014) and 12 days for fiscal year 2015 (9/1/2014-8/31/2015).

New staff will receive these incidental sick days based on the following prorated schedule:

Will Northwestern continue to manage the approval process for leaves of absence under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)? 

Yes. An employee should contact the Benefits Division to apply for this leave. This process, if approved, ensures a staff members’ position is held for up to 12 weeks. For additional information, visit the policies & procedures section.
