Manager FAQ
How do I place a temporary order?
To request a temporary candidate, complete a temporary requisition form which can be found at www.northwestern.edu and email the completed form to Theresa Barron for Evanston requests and to Ashley Orchard Mackowiak for downtown requests.
How quickly will my request be responded to?
You will hear back from Theresa or Ashley within two hours to discuss the details of your request.
How quickly can I have a temporary candidate start?
For a typical administrative role, we can have someone start with in 48 hours. If the role is more involved and you would like to see resumes or interview candidates, this will affect the time accordingly as to when a candidate can begin.
For what type of positions does the temporary center staff?
The focus of the temporary center is administrative and financial support positions.
How are candidates’ software knowledge assessed?
The temporary staffing center uses a computer testing system known as Proveit. Every candidate who is interviewed through the temporary staffing center is tested on Customer Service Skills and Typing. Candidates for general office positions are tested on Basic Office skills and higher level and administrative candidates are tested on MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Other specific programs are available, for example MS Access, if a recruiter is staffing a particular project or position.
What if the dates on the requisition form change and I need to end a candidate sooner than specified or extend a candidate’s assignment?
If either of the above is the case, just call Theresa or Ashley and let them know. They will communicate this information directly to the candidate.
What if I am unsatisfied by the candidate who I receive?
Please let Theresa or Ashley know as soon as any concerns arise in areas of attendance, punctuality, professionalism, or any other area of overall performance. The appropriate staffing consultant will then either coach the candidate if appropriate or end him/her from the assignment per the client’s request..
Is the $2.98 refundable if I am unhappy?
The 2.98 hourly rate is in place to cover the cost of running the temporary staffing center and is therefore not refundable once a candidate has been placed.
How will the temporary candidates be paid?
The temporary candidates will be paid using ETES just as other temporary NU employees are paid. They will be paid on a bi-weekly basis based on hours they enter through ETES which will be covered with them in their initial interview with Theresa or Ashley.
How do I hire my temporary candidate permanently?
Based on the position into which you would like to hire your candidate, please see the user guide to determine how many total hours is necessary for the candidate to work before being hired permanently. Theresa or Ashley would also be able to tell you the total hours worked. When you are ready to hire your temporary candidate permanently, inform Theresa or Ashley and they will work with the respective staffing consultant in HR to convert the employee from temporary to full time, regular status.
How will I ensure my needs are met for future projects?
Contact Theresa or Ashley as far ahead as possible when you have a need. This is logically to ensure the largest pool from which to choose for your specific department. If you need more than one candidate of if you know you have a particularly large project or busy time approaching, again, please give as much notice as possible to the temporary staffing consultant to ensure your needs are met to the fullest extent.
