Persons of Interest Information

UPDATE: APRIL 2007

Introduction
Persons of Interest are individuals who have some affiliation with the University and who need access to certain services provided by the University, but are neither formal employees nor students. As a Person of Interest (POI), individuals may have privileges such as a NetID, Meeting Maker, email, wildcard, administrative systems, etc.

Project Purpose
Currently, affiliated individuals are receiving their privileges via separate units within the university, resulting in scattered sources of information with limited tracking capabilities.

To improve this process, we will implement the use of the Persons of Interest feature available in HRIS, thus allowing the University to capture the broader NU community in one definitive source.

Process for Implementing POIs
Identify the POI types and associated access requirements.
- In February, we distributed a questionnaire to employees who are currently authorized to provide access to affiliated individuals, in order to gain a better understanding of the population and purpose for which affiliated individuals are granted privileges.
- From the questionnaire results, POI types were identified and categorized by affiliation and access requirements.

POI types will be implemented in phases. The entire project is expected to run through early winter.
- POI types that have an immediate need to be in HRIS system will be manually entered by the Payroll department.
- Subsequently, security requirements will be established for units to enter their own POIs.
- And finally, POI types loaded via batch process will be implemented, allowing time to develop an interface to HRIS.

Below are the developmental next steps of this project.
- Policy to define who is considered a POI
- A communication plan to inform department managers about POI
- Training materials for entering/viewing POIs
- A POI page accessible through HRIS Self Service
