Faculty / Librarian Pre-search Process |
 |

Overview
The Office of the Provost and FASIS have created a streamlined electronic pre-search form designed to assign the search number and its appropriate approvals within the system at a faster turn-around time. An electronic self-identification process has replaced the EEO cards sent to faculty and librarian applicants. An additional benefit to the electronic format is that it enables us to automatically post faculty positions on the Northwestern jobs site and the Greater Chicago Midwest Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (GCM HERC), www.gcherc.org.
The primary goal of GCM HERC is to improve member institutions' recruitment and diversity efforts for both faculty and staff, with a particular focus on assisting dual-career couples in finding suitable employment for spouses and partners at academic institutions in the same region. The search engine permits two people to search jointly for higher-education positions in the Chicago and Midwest areas.
Process Purpose
Currently, faculty and librarian recruiting are handled through the Office of the Provost and the schools, whereas all staff recruiting is handled through the HR department and FASIS's eRecruit system. In order to upload information on available faculty and librarian positions to the GCM HERC website, the job openings need to exist in the eRecruit database. Since August of 2008 when this process was initiated, the demographics data collection for faculty applicants has increased significantly because the self identify process has also been automated.
Training & Contacts
Faculty data coordinators must complete the HRS251 Faculty-Librarian Pre-search class in order to access the application and be able to create a faculty position and job opening, as well as send self identification requests to applicants. For questions regarding training, email the FASIS Help Desk. If you are unsure which security role you will need, please contact Laura Koepele-Tenges. Feedback on this process may be directed to Emily Rutkowski.
