Conducting Criminal Background Investigations
All applicants for employment with Northwestern University are required to submit to a criminal background investigation as follows:
- Background investigations will be performed once the preferred candidate has been selected for employment and prior to the commencement of employment. The applicant for the position will be required to provide a written release to authorize the criminal background investigation. Individuals who do not sign releases will not be eligible for employment. Current employees who refuse to sign a release will not be eligible to transfer jobs nor will they be eligible for promotion.
- Certain positions within Northwestern University, as required by law, contract, or business necessity, may require a driving record check, a credit check, or a broader criminal background check.
