Vision Care Plan

Northwestern University offers a standalone vision plan to all benefits eligible employees through UnitedHealthcare Vision, formally known as Spectera. This plan provides financial savings by offering discounts on corrective eyewear such as glasses and contacts, and laser eye surgery. Please note: if you have a problem with your eyes such as disease, glaucoma, etc; this would fall under your medical health plan and you should contact your health care physician.

Employees enrolled in one of Northwestern's healthcare plans have built in vision coverage or a discount program available at no additional cost. All benefits eligible employees may elect for UnitedHealthcare Vision in addition to what is already available in their health plans, but the two programs cannot be used simultaneously.

After initial enrollment, individuals may elect or waive coverage by completing the enrollment process during Open Enrollment or within 31 days from the date of a qualifying change in employment or family status.
