Advocate Health Care, based in Oak Brook, Illinois, is one of the largest health care organizations in the Chicago area. It has more than 20,000 employees, 3,800 physicians and 180 sites of care, including eight hospitals with more than 3,200 beds.

Advocate also has a multispecialty physician practice, the area's largest full-service home health care company, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient centers, advanced information technologies and a sophisticated regional approach to network operations. In addition, it has long- term academic and teaching affiliations with the University of Illinois at Chicago Health Sciences Center and the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.

Advocate Health Care is one of the nation's largest religiously sponsored health care organizations, related to both the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the United Church of Christ.

The Children's Memorial Medical Center

The Children's Memorial Medical Center is a leading regional provider of specialty pediatric care, serving north and central Illinois, northwest Indiana, southern Wisconsin, and southern Michigan. Offering all specialty and subspecialty services, 33 in all, Children's provides comprehensive treatment in primary, secondary, and teritary care. Delivery of care to children involves parents and other caregivers as part of the treatment plan. Children's is a pediatric trauma center for the state of Illinois with skilled transport teams available around the clock. It also operates an outpatient specialty center in Westchester, Illinois and a pediatric home health service.

Evanston and Glenbrook Hospitals

Evanston Northwestern Healthcare is comprised of Evanston Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital, Highland Park Hospital, ENH Medical Group, ENH Home Services and ENH Research Institute. Evanston Northwestern Healthcare provides care across the entire spectrum: from physician offices, to hospital services, to hospice and home care. It also supports extensive medical education and research programs. Virtually all of the attending physicians of Evanston Northwestern Healthcare are on the faculty at Northwestern University Medical School and have offices conveniently located throughout the north and northwestern suburbs. Evanston, Glenbrook and Highland Park Hospitals offer a complete range of specialty and subspecialty care. The Hospitals have been ranked among the "Top 100 Hospitals" and "Top 15 Major Teaching Hospitals" in the nation for the past three years. In addition, the Hospitals have received an "Accreditation with Commendation" from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, an honor granted to only five percent of hospitals nationwide. In 1996 and 1997, Evanston, Glenbrook and Highland Park Hospitals were listed among the "Best Hospitals in America" by U.S. News and World Report.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital

Northwestern Memorial Hospital, as the primary teaching hospital for Northwestern University Medical School and one of the nation's pre-eminent medical centers, Northwestern Memorial is noted for outstanding patient-care, medical education, and clinical research. The medical staff, numbering nearly 1,100, represents virtually every medical specialty. Northwestern Memorial provides the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic modalities through a comprehensive continuum of outpatient and inpatient services. In May 1995, it received an evaluation of 99 out of a possible 100 from the Joint Commission on Acreditation of Healthcare Organizations. While tracing its Chicago roots back 135 years, Northwestern Memorial officially was founded in 1972 through the merger of Chicago Wesley Memorial and Passavant Memorial hospitals. In 1975, Prentice Women's Hospital and Maternity Center and the Norman and Ida Stone Institute of Psychiatry joined Northwestern Memorial.

St Francis Hospital of Evanston

St. Francis Hospital, founded in 1901, is a not-for-profit, 360-bed, comprehensive teaching hospital and a member of Resurrection Health Care. The hospital serves northern Chicago and the northern suburbs with a staff of 400-physicians in 40 specialties, as well as a highly-trained complement of nurses, technicians and support personnel. St. Francis Hospital's centers of excellence include The Galvin Heart Center, a comprehensive Breast Center, a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department with a Chest Pain Emergency Center, and a LDRP Maternity Center, where the entire birthing experience takes place in one private, homelike room. Reaching out to the community, St. Francis has developed a network of neighborhood primary care facilities in Evanston, Lincolnwood, Skokie, Glenview and soon in Morton Grove and Northtown.
