Changes in Employment Status may impact your benefit eligibility. A position change is effective the 1st day of the month following the transition.

National Research Service Award (NRSA) Post Doctoral Fellow to Post Doctoral Fellow |
- Health, dental, vision, short term disability, long term disability, basic life, supplemental life, spouse or partner life, and dependent child life insurance through Garnett-Powers & Associates will terminate the first of the month following your position change.
- You are newly eligible for employee benefits through Northwestern University.
- You must enroll in these plans with Northwestern through Self Service if you would like to obtain coverage. You are also eligible to participate in a health or dependent care flexible spending account, a health savings account, and retirement savings.
- There is a one year service period required for the disability insurance and basic retirement savings plans. This waiting period will be decreased by the length of continuous service in a regular staff position immediately prior to the NRSA appointment.

- As an NRSA Post Doctoral Fellow, the premiums for health, dental, and vision plans are paid by a combination of funds from the NRSA grant and the University. If family coverage is elected, you are responsible for a portion as well.
- You are no longer eligible for employee benefits through Northwestern University
- Health, dental, vision, short term disability, long term disability, basic life, supplemental life, spouse or partner life, and dependent child life insurance will be available through Garnett-Powers & Associates the first of the month following your position change.
- You are no longer eligible to participate in a health or dependent care flexible spending account, a health savings account, or retirement savings.
