Employees may continue benefit plan participation during a paid leave of absence.
Leaves of Absence for Medical Reasons
Employees may continue health, dental, vision, life insurance, and health or limited use flexible spending accounts and pay the regular monthly employee premium. The University continues its contribution.

Leaves of Absence for Personal Reasons
Employees may continue health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and health or limited use flexible spending accounts. Individuals are no longer eligible for retirement contributions or the dependent care flexible spending account. Employees are responsible for the total monthly premium including the portion typically paid by Northwestern.
