Employees Working in New York City

Health Plan. Faculty and Staff working in the New York City area may enroll in one of three PPO health care plans administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois for hospital and physician services. Walgreens Health Initiatives (WHI) administeres prescription drug services for the Premier and Select PPO plans. Prime Therapeutics in partnership with Blue Cross administers the prescription drug programs for the Value PPO plan. Plan members receive membership cards from each company.

Plan members may obtain prescriptions from a network of 54,000 retail pharmacies including most national retail drugstore chains and many independent pharmacies. Individuals are not required to obtain prescriptions from a Walgreens drugstore.

PPO contributions are based on an individual's University salary as of September 1, 2008 or the new hire salary if hired during 2009.

Dental Plan. Faculty and Staff working in the New York City area may enroll in the PPO dental plan administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois.

Educational Assistance and Reduced Tuition Plans. Full-time regular status employees whose customary work place is located more than 200 miles from Chicago are elgble for Educational Assistance and Reduced Tuition benefits at instititutions other than Northwestern University. Such employees are also eligible for Portable Tuition benefits.

In such cases, employees should submit the Educational Assistance and Reduced Tuition applications with a copy of the institution's billing statement and proof of successful completion at the end of the term.

Upon approval of the application, the University will issue the benefit directly to the employee. The amount of the benefit granted will not exceed the amount of the corresponding benefit applied to Northwestern University tuition.

Full time employees may also participate in the Portable Tuition plan for a dependent child taking courses at a school other than NU.
