TIPS FOR USING THIS SERVICE:
Plan ahead.
- Search for providers and interview them before you have an unexpected need.
- Identify multiple caregivers. If one is not available, you'll have a second choice already identified.
Screen caregivers.
- Check caregivers' references from former clients.
- Use the optional national background check service through LexisNexis, which is discounted for Sittercity members.
Research market rates for caregivers.
- Sittercity's site includes a rate calculator.
Leave detailed instructions for your sitter.
- Before you go out, make a list of emergency contact numbers, instructions and special concerns for your sitter.
- The Sittercity site includes an entire library of tips and resources for sitters and parents.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Northwestern faculty, staff and students are eligible for a free year-long membership to Sittercity.com. If you have a question about your eligibility, contact the work/life office at (847) 491-3612.
SIGN UP TODAY!
To verify your NU affiliation, please click below and follow the prompts in HRIS Self Service. To gain access to Sittercity.com, you will need to enter your NetID and password and then select SITTERCITY from the HRIS Self Service menu. You must go through HRIS Self Service for the intitial account set up in order to get a free account.
Once inside the Sittercity site, you can register for your free year-long account with Sittercity.com courtesy of Northwestern University. After your account is set up though HRIS Self Service, your subsequent visits to Sittercity should be accessed through the Sittercity home page by entering your unique Sittercity username and password.
Note: If you have trouble with either your NetID or NetID password you can verify them at password.northwestern.edu. Your school or department's IT support can assist you if there is a problem. Here is a list of school helpdesks or you can call the NUIT Support Center at (847) 491-help for further assistance with your NetID or NetID password.
Note: Northwestern University faculty, staff and students who do not have a NET ID and password, should send an e-mail to the work/life office (
la-henderson@northwestern.edu ) to verify eligibility for this benefit. The e-mail should include the following information:
- Name
- E-mail Address
- Phone
- NU School or Department affiliation
Once approved by NU human resources, you will receive information about becoming a free Sittercity Member.
