Community Assistants and Student Directors
Engelhart's Community Assistants (CA) work with an incredibly diverse group of residents that have come from all over the world to study a variety of disciplines at Northwestern University. Many of the residents in Engelhart are the partners, spouses or children of students. The McManus Student Directors (SD) also work with a diverse group of residents (and spouses), but unlike the tenants of Engelhart, the McManus students have the common bond of all being students of the Kellogg Graduate School of Management. The role of the CA or the SD is to serve students by:

  • presenting educational and social programming
  • serving as campus resources by answering questions and inquiries
  • ensuring good customer service is extended during the evenings and on weekends
  • promoting safety and responsibility by monitoring the facilities
  • assisting students during emergencies or crises

Phone & Data Service
Basic campus phone service is included as a part of apartment rent. Basic campus phone service includes dial tone, unlimited campus calls, and a number of service features provided by Information Technologies Division. Residents provide their own phone and receive a personal billing number (PBN) from PaeTec upon arrival which will be used when calling off campus either locally or long distance. The additional charges for these off campus calls are billed to residents monthly. Please feel free to contact IT at 847-491-HELP (4357) with any questions you may have regarding campus phone service.

All residence halls rooms and apartments on the Evanston campus have 10BaseT Ethernet ports. Residents can use these ports to connect their personal computers to NUNet (Northwestern University Network) and through it to the Internet. Residents must have Ethernet capable computers to use this service. All on-line services on NUNet and Internet (such as e-mail, list serve, databases, and library card catalogues) will be accessible from these ports. Please feel free to contact Information Technology Services at 847-491-HELP (4357) with any questions you may have regarding campus data service.

More detailed information regarding the phone and data serrvices systems can be found here. Additional information regarding the support services and features of the campus computing network can be found here.
