All University Government Relations initiatives are established annually by the University President after consultation with the Provost, deans, and senior staff.

Northwestern University participates in numerous State programs, in cooperation with other educational, research and charitable organizations, both private and public. Among the most important are the following:

STUDENT FINANCIAL AID

Northwestern University participates fully in the financial aid programs of Illinois Board of Higher Education, including Health Service Education Grants, the Illinois Financial Assistance Act, and the Monetary Award Program, as administered by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC). These programs form the foundation on which Illinois has built the nation's leading postsecondary education enterprise. For more information, contact Bruce Layton .

RESEARCH

With other Illinois universities, Northwestern undertakes a wide range of research and development projects with funding from the Illinois Board of Higher Education. This includes the State Matching Grants program, which has leveraged $61 million for research at Illinois universities and seeded important new research programs on the Northwestern campuses. Additionally, Northwestern's Feinberg School of Medicine operates an Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Center (ADAC) through a grant from the Illinois Department of Public Aid (IDPA). ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Northwestern University established the State's first Illinois Technology Enterprise Corporation (ITEC) center on our Evanston campus. ITEC serves to grow and retain technology-based business in our region. It helps companies develop business plans, marketing strategies, venture capital, technology assessment, and assists with the other business needs of young companies. The State is currently working to expand the ITEC program into a statewide network to serve technology-based businesses throughout Illinois. For more information, contact Bruce Layton.
