Bruce Layton, Special Assistant to the President for Government Relations

Bruce Layton was appointed Special Assistant to the President in September, 2002, having served as Director of Government Relations since September, 2000. His current responsibilities include advising Northwestern University President Henry S. Bienen on matters involving federal and state government, and managing Northwestern's Office of Government Relations. Prior to his Northwestern service, Bruce was a senior manager with the New York State Science and Technology Foundation for eleven years. His prior university service includes government-relations work at Columbia University and New York University. His government service includes work at the local, state, and federal levels, including the City of New York and the U.S. government, where he held positions in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and in the White House Domestic Policy Staff under President Jimmy Carter. Bruce holds baccalaureate and masters degrees from New York University.
