Stephanie M. Graham

stephanie-graham-1.jpgStephanie M. Graham is Northwestern’s Vice President & General Counsel, Ms. Graham oversees all of the University’s legal affairs and directs its Office of General Counsel. She is a member of the University’s senior management team, advises the University trustees, the President, and other senior administrators and academic leaders on legal issues.

Ms. Graham received a bachelor’s degree Magna Cum Laude with High Distinction in history from the University of Illinois and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She received a J.D. degree with honors from the University of Chicago Law School. She joined Northwestern University’s Office of General Counsel in 1993 as an Assistant General Counsel. Prior to joining Northwestern University, Ms. Graham was a labor and employment litigation attorney with Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal in Chicago, Illinois. She is licensed to practice in Illinois.

Ms. Graham’s principal areas of responsibility in the Office of General Counsel are office management, University governance, research compliance, athletics, and complex litigation matters. Ms. Graham also advises on a number of other issues including academic medical center issues, conflict of interest issues and Title IX matters. Ms. Graham is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) and is on the Audit Committee of the NACUA Board. She is often asked to speak on various topics in higher education law.
