Alpha Chi Omega and Delta Delta Delta - Exterior Accessibility Alterations

Project Status: COMPLETED

Construction start: Spring 2011
Completion: Fall 2011

Project Description & Statistics

Two adjacent Northwestern University sororities worked together to alter their exterior limestone terraces in order to provide ADA accessible front entrances to their buildings. The buildings were originally designed by James Gamble Rogers in the early 1920s. The first floors of Alpha Chi Omega and Delta Delta Delta are two of the highest in the historic quadrangle, which meant that their ramps would need to be longer than other ramps in the surrounding area. The accessible routes were created in an underused open space between the two terraces, using both ramps, sloping walks, and new landscaping. The accessible routes share a central section.
