NU RECYCLING

Do you have a blue recycling bin? Do you use it properly?

Your recycling efforts make a difference:

  • Recycling two aluminum cans saves the equivalent energy needed to power a PC for one workday.
  • 5 plastic soda bottles are enough to make the fiberfill to insulate one ski jacket.
  • Recycling one glass jar saves the equivalent energy needed to light a 100-watt bulb for 4 hours.
  • Every ton of paper recycled saves enough energy to heat and air condition the average American home for at least 6 months.

Thanks to the participation of individuals like you, NU recycles more than 1000 TONS annually.

The University's efforts have been acknowledged with awards from the Office of the Governor of Illinois, the Illinois Recycling Association and the American Forest and Paper Association. By using your blue bins properly you can contribute to this successful effort and help NU reduce waste and conserve natural resources. Contamination of recyclables is a serious problem. There are material identification stickers on the recycling bins - please pay attention and do not throw garbage in recycling bins!

If you have questions or need additional recycling bins, please contact NU Recycling at 7-1374.
You can see bin options at this link http://www.northwestern.edu/fm/operations/recycling/BinOptions.pdf.

Thanks for recycling!
