drConstruction finished recently on Phase 2 of the Sheridan Road project in Evanston, which widened and added bicycle lanes from Chicago Avenue to Lincoln Street. All north and southbound traffic lanes have reopened, as have the new bike lanes and sidewalks, according to a news release from city officials on Oct. 26.

Final pavement markings were scheduled to be added on that Thursday, according to the release. And the chain link fence on Sheridan Road along the Northwestern University campus was set to come down Saturday, all signaling the construction completion.

Phase 3 of the project, from Lincoln Street to Ridge Avenue/Isabella Street, is expected to get underway in the spring, according to the release.

Work began in April on the $13 million Sheridan Road project. The first phase of the project, which included construction work along Chicago Avenue from Davis Street in downtown Evanston to Sheridan Road at the university campus, finished in June. The project was delayed over the summer, after the state budget impasse required workers to stop construction until funding could be assured. Phase 2 originally was scheduled to finish before Northwestern University students returned to the Evanston campus in September.
