The Urban Fellows program brings ten aspiring
policy makers to New York City to work with current decision makers and help formulate
public policy. A series of seminars and symposia introduce fellows to critical
issues in city government and allow them to interact with people at all levels
of government. Past fellows have been involved with the budget process, low-income
housing, affordable health care, economic development, and support for battered
women. A Northwestern alum in the MMSS program who participated in the program
several years ago writes: "Without the program, one could work for years
for the city and never meet a fraction of the people we met. . . . If a student
thinks that he or she may want to make a career out of working in city government,
the Urban Fellows Program is a big jump-start to that." |
