The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation enables highly qualified, early-stage researchers from abroad, who hold doctorates, to carry out research projects of their own choice in Germany. Applications may be submitted for long-term research stays of at least 6 and at most 12 months; an extension of up to 24 months is possible. Research fellowships are offered world-wide on a competitive basis. Researchers of all nationalities and disciplines may apply. Applicants choose their own research projects and their own German hosts. Details of the research project and the time-schedule must be agreed upon with the prospective host in advance. Applicants who have already been staying in Germany for more than 6 months at the time of applying should contact the Selection Department before submitting their applications as formal considerations may militate against them. |

ELIGIBILITY |

|
Doctorate or comparable academic degree and/or research work over several years, convincingly demonstrated by publications in internationally-recognized academic journals; younger academics, who have nearly completed their doctoral degrees, may apply providing they submit the manuscript of their dissertation. Proof of independent research work in recognized academic publications, preferably in international journals. Adequate language skills scientists, engineers and physicians must have a good proven knowledge of German or English (German and/or English language certificate required); scholars in the humanities must have a good knowledge of German if it is necessary to carry out the project successfully (German language certificate required). Age limit: 40. |

Monthly research fellowship rates range from 2.100,- EUR to 3.000,- EUR and are determined by the selection committee. |
