Northwestern holds internal competition, with interviews, to select nominees. Students may apply for nomination either during Spring Quarter or in September. Stop by the Office to pick up a copy of our handout on application procedures, or email fellowships@northwestern.edu to receive an electronic copy.

Applicants must contact Sara Vaux or Elizabeth Pardoe by the beginning of May (if applying in Spring) or by mid-August (if applying in September). Full applications will be due on internal deadline date.

All applicants should provide their recommenders with a copy of the Instructions to Recommenders — British & Irish Scholarships.

The Marshall Scholarship allows study at any of nearly 100 institutions of higher learning in the United Kingdom, with the requirement that students take a degree (either a second B.A. or a higher degree). Although the award typically supports two years of study, students may petition for a third year of funding to complete a degree program. The Marshall selects 40 scholars each year. Application begins with an internal NU competition. You must first secure an interview with the NU British Scholarships Committee. Normally we would not submit more than five candidates to a single region.
