The publishers of the newspaper USA Today award $2,500 to 20 top students nationwide, selected on the basis of academic talent, creativity, and leadership. The heart of this application is an essay in which you describe an outstanding original academic or intellectual product. In 2002, Northwestern had three winners; a human communications major, who had founded and directed a non-profit agency dedicated to sending medical supplies to developing countries, placed on the 1st team, an American studies major placed on the 2nd team, and a Medill student placed on the 3rd team. Applications are available online and are due by the deadline.
