David L. Boren Fellowships

The mission of the NSEP is to educate U.S. citizens to understand foreign cultures, to strengthen U.S. economic competitiveness, and to enhance international cooperation and security. Recipients build international goodwill through educational and cultural exchange. Award recipients incur a service requirement and are expected to accept a relevant position in a government agency following their award term, for a period of time equal to the award period.

U.S. citizens currently enrolled in an undergraduate college or university in the U.S. (for the Scholarship), or in a graduate college or university in the U.S. (for the Fellowship). Applicants should identify how their study abroad program, as well as their future academic and career goals, will contribute to U.S. national security, broadly defined.

Up to $20,000 for Boren Scholarships (undergraduate students) and up to $30,000 for Boren Fellowships (graduate students).

Northwestern holds internal competition to select nominees. Applications due in to Office of Fellowships on internal deadline date.
