Liz Stedman

Liz

Liz Stedman was called to be Canterbury’s chaplain in 2006.  For most of her life, Liz has had parallel careers in ministry and politics.  Her professional ministries have included serving as a hospital chaplain to people affected by HIV and organizing churches to respond to the AIDS crisis in Jersey City, NJ.  The zenith of her political career was when she directed government affairs at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Believing that Jesus came both to set us free and to help us establish relationships of accountability, Liz strives to live out a progressive Christian ethic  rooted in the Gospel.  Born in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas, Liz has a B.A. in political theory from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, and an M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary in New York City.  Liz and her partner, Mary, have two sons, Jasper and Leo.
