As Graduate Assistant of Student Enrichment Services, Yesenia is responsible for helping manage and run the Compass Peer Mentor Program. She works individually with student mentors from Compass assisting them with supporting their mentees socially, academically, and emotionally throughout the academic year. Yesenia is a first generation low-income student herself, which is why her work here at Northwestern means a lot to her.

Yesenia was born and raised in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago and is very active in the preserving of her Puerto Rican neighborhood. Prior to joining Northwestern, Yesenia worked at DePaul University’s Steans Center for Community Based Service-Learning. She believes highly in the Asset Based Community Development Model and thinks that all communities should be looked at with the ability to grow.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in International Marketing from DePaul University, and is currently getting her

Masters of Education in student college development at DePaul’s School of Education. Outside of her position, Yesenia loves to be the world traveler she is known for and participate in social justice work. She is a mental health advocate and loves to promote resources for her friends, family, and community.
