Alanna Williams
AmeriCorps VISTA

Alanna serves full time as the AmeriCorps VISTA for Student Enrichment Services.  AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members bring their passion and perseverance to organizations to ultimately help eradicate poverty. An AmeriCorps VISTA member serves as a catalyst for change, living and working alongside community members to help build capacity and advance local solutions.

More than a welcoming face at the front desk, Alanna works to support Student Enrichment Services and help the SES team run as a well-oiled machine. Alanna manages the Laptop Loaner initiatives; helping students receive laptops for time frames ranging anywhere from one day to four years! Additionally, Alanna manages the Winter Gear program helping to supply students with appropriate clothing to bear the tough Evanston winter. Alanna’s responsibilities also include working with a group of students known as Ryan Scholars by creating and executing programing, and other office support as assigned.

As a recent first generation and low income college graduate, Alanna relates closely with the students she serves in the SES office. As a woman of color and daughter of an immigrant, her intersectionality allows her to empathetically advocate for all students in need.

Prior to her work at Northwestern, Alanna graduated in May with her Bachelors of Science in Learning and Education Studies specifically concentrating on Education Equality and Cultural Understanding, from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. She became a member of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc. At U of I, Alanna served for 2.5 year as President of the Minority Association of Future Educators, The Vice President of Empowering Minorities Everywhere, and many other executive office positions for several Registered Student Organizations. Alanna is also creator and founder of CommUNITY is ALIVE, Manifesting Achievement From Exposure (MAFE2.0), Project L.O.V.E, and Alanna’s Soul Food.

When Alanna is not at work she is visiting family and friends, cooking, working on her entrepreneurial endeavors or somewhere enjoying time in her hometown of Evanston, Illinois!
