During the 1980s and early 90s, the research programs of several Northwestern University faculty became highly integrated in their study of biological rhythms at both the basic science and clinical levels. The research teams presently supported by the faculty represent one of the largest groups of investigators in the world studying biological rhythms (currently 60 technicians, graduate students, undergraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research associates, visiting scientists, and residents). These investigators have established Northwestern University as an internationally recognized "Center" for the study of biological rhythms. The administration of Northwestern University recognized the achievements of these researchers with the creation of the Center for Sleep & Circadian Biology in 1995.
