Intern Summer Training Activities

A few training activities end in June with the conclusion of the academic year: supervision of supervision and individual supervision of group therapy. This allows for other training activities for the summer, described below.

Intern Seminar and Professional Presentation

Interns will be exposed to didactic presentations on topics that continue from the previous quarter’s Intern Seminar. The seminar is 1.5 hours per week. As a part of this seminar, each intern will each lead a professional presentation which is open to all staff. The goal is to help interns gain facility with public presentation of clinical materials in the common format used in job interviews. Interns will present a case of their choosing, where they felt the most growth in their skills as a therapist or the accomplishment of one of their major training goals for the year (e.g. work with eating disorders, multicultural/diversity issues, treatment from a specific theoretical orientation, etc.). The presentation will include assessment (DSM), theoretical conceptualization, treatment plan, and analysis of the course of treatment. Alternatively, the intern can modify the professional presentation to fit with what their actual job interviews might entail. Feedback will focus not only the integrity of clinical work, but also strengths and growth edges in the interns’ presentation format.

Interns' Group Supervision on Evidence-Based Practice in Psychology (EBPP)

Interns will have 2 hours of group supervision during the summer quarter. They will take turns presenting a case from their caseload using a case conference format for presentation. In keeping with the training philosophy that integrates science with clinical practice, interns will address case conceptualization and treatment planning in the framework of Evidence-Based Practice in Psychology (EBPP) or Empirically Supported Treatment (EST).
