Direct Service Activities
Clinical Service
The primary focus of the practicum is on individual psychotherapy of differential lengths of treatment. Emphasis is placed on accurate assessment within the first few sessions so that a comprehensive treatment plan may be carried out within a brief therapy model. Externs generally carry nine individual cases per week. In addition, externs receive training in intake assessments and provide one hour a week of intake availability, to begin at the discretion of their primary supervisors. Externs work cooperatively with the staffing team for case disposition of their intakes. Externs are responsible for case management and system linkage, client advocacy, and record documentation as required in their therapeutic work.
Consultation and Outreach
Externs co-facilitate psychoeducational workshops with senior staff, post-docs, and/or interns. Externs choose one workshop for the fall from the schedule of workshops offered, and chose another workshop in the winter. Externs have the option to do an extra workshop in the spring. Externs are also invited to participate in outreach programs throughout the academic year.
