Work-Life Balance: How Self-Care Leads to a Healthier You

Description

Self-care includes any intentional actions you take to care for the various aspects of your health. While self-care is important across the lifespan and can take different forms, it is often overlooked, undervalued and misperceived. This is especially the case in graduate school, a time when there are many competing demands and expectations for success. Creating a sense of balance between academic success and other life values, can be challenging, particularly given the nature of graduate school culture. In this workshop we will discuss the social concept of “health” and what it means to you. We will explore the variables that impact our perceptions of health and challenge the common myths associated with health, self-care and success. Finally, we will consider how self-care and a sense of balance in our lives can not only alter our thoughts, feelings and relationships but also help us become more successful.
