Wendy R. Cutler Memorial Fund
Wendy R. Cutler, Ph.D., passed away Sunday, June 4, 2006 after a five year valiant battle against breast cancer. For 10 years, Wendy was a valued staff member of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) where she was also the Assistant Director of Training. Even while facing a serious illness, Wendy lived life to the fullest. She will be remembered not only for her great professional contributions but also for her warmth, compassion, sense of humor, and her infectious laugh.
Wendy had a strong commitment to students. She also was an advocate for those whose voices were silenced by parts of society. For example, she was actively involved in the Northwestern University Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Support Network and provided numerous trainings for the Safe Space Program. In 2002, she won the LGBT Support Network Above and Beyond Award for her work with the LGBT community at NU.
Anyone who worked with Wendy knew that her greatest passion was for training, as she fostered the development of many future psychologists. She truly saw every experience as an opportunity for learning and growth. She created a pre-doctoral internship in psychology at CAPS, which earned the highly prestigious accreditation from the American Psychological Association (APA) in spring 2000. She also worked to redesign the advanced practicum program which is now one of the most sought after placements for psychology graduate students in the Chicagoland area. And, she helped develop a new practicum in developmental programming. She was actively involved in the Association of Counseling Center Training Agencies and made several presentations on training and supervision at the annual APA conference. In 2001, she was the recipient of the Northwestern University Division of Student Affairs award for Outstanding Contributions to the Development of the Profession.
To honor Wendy’s legacy, the Wendy R. Cutler Memorial Fund has been established. This fund will be used by Counseling and Psychological Services of Northwestern University solely for the growth and continued development of the training program.
