Eating Disorders Awareness Week

WHY IS THERE A NATIONAL EATING DISORDERS AWARENESS WEEK?

  • In the United States, as many as 10 million females and 1 million males are struggling with the devastating, life-threatening effects of anorexia and bulimia
  • 25 million suffer from binge eating disorder
  • 80% of American women are dissatisfied with their bodies

WHEN IS NEDAW?

  • February 25 – February 29, 2008

WHAT WILL BE HAPPENING ON CAMPUS?

  • Northwestern University’s Eating Concerns Assessment and Treatment Team with the aid of the Counseling and Psychological Services Associated Student Government Committee will host the Great Jeans Giveaway as a reminder to “Be comfortable in your genes. Wear jeans that fit the TRUE you.”

WHAT IS THE GREAT JEANS GIVEAWAY?

WHAT CAN I DO?

  • Donate jeans that do not fit comfortably to help us reach our goal of collecting 1,000 pairs of jeans
  • Wear jeans to work during this week to help promote and support this event

WHAT IF I WANT MORE INFORMATION?

Through the Great Jeans Giveaway, we hope to persuade others to think twice about trying to change our bodies to fit fashion and the pressures of our culture’s unattainable standards of beauty. Instead, we are encouraging people to change the size of their jeans to fit their genes. After all, every-body deserves to feel comfortable and confident in their clothes!  We hope that you will be able to join us in this exciting new event to raise awareness and challenge people to improve their attitudes about all bodies, including their own.
