Unclaimed Property

Unclaimed property generally refers to check payments made by the University that have been typically "abandoned" or "uncashed" for one to five years. Accounting Services manages the unclaimed property process for the University, including unclaimed accounts payable and payroll checks. By law, these funds are escheated ("turned over to") to the state after an applicable dormancy period. In Illinois, "the Illinois State Treasurer's Unclaimed Property Division connects state residents with their unclaimed property, through the I-Cash program".
