CLIMB Scholars Graduate Program Research Interests

Jose Agraz

BME My research focuses on non-invasive, low cost MR imaging techniques--more specifically atherosclerosis imaging techniques of the heart and its coronary arteries.
Frank Aguilar IGP My area of interest is viral oncogenesis. Specifically, I am interested in investigating the strategies and mechanisms viruses employ to transform the host cell.
Garry Cooper NUIN I am interested in neuropharmacology. Specifically, understanding the mechanisms of neurodegeneration and finding chemical compounds that can regulate such mechanisms.
Desmond Henderson NUIN My research interests are diseases involved with vision and their molecular workings.
Kyle Laster IGP My area of interest lies in the immune system and its relationship to the development and maintenance of tumors.
Diana Monsivais IGP I am interested in studying cancer biology, particularly how the tumor environment affects the cellular signaling cascades that regulate cell adhesion, cell migration and angiogenesis.
Antonia Navarro IGP

I am fascinated with how the endocrine system works, and my area of interest is in metabolic disorders with a focus in obesity and the cardiovascular system.

Ruth Quintana NUIN I am interested in neuroendocrinology. In particular how the hypothalamic-systemic circuits are regulated in mood, anxiety, memory and sleep disorders.
Rebecca Rodriguez NUIN I am currently interested in the genetic and physiological etiologies of mental disorders and the investigation of potential pharmacological treatments. I am also interested in the effects of these disorders on learning and memory.
Leidamarie Tirado IBiS I am interested in investigating the cellular processes that govern cell differentiation and organ morphogenesis.

Crystle Ashford NUIN
Nancy Au Yeung IBiS
Carmen Capo NUIN
Andy Cole NUIN I am interested in the use of electron and light microscopy to investigate the structural neurobiology of certain neurodegenerative diseases. One area of particular interest is the structural basis of memory and the changes that lead to dementia.
Bita Cyrus IGP My focus lies first within the molecular basis of autoimmunity in order to elucidate the relationship between the various autoimmune diseases. In addition, my aim is to better understand the framework of autoimmunity that will help to identify the causes and discover potential therapies.
Rachel Dudek ChBE I am interested in elucidating the cellular events of the immune response, and using this information to engineer immune cells to 1) overcome conditioning-induced tolerance to diseases such as cancer and 2) mitigate harmful inflammatory responses such as autoimmune disease and transplant rejection.
Adrienne Eastland IBiS
Brian Fritz ChBE
John Gallagher NUIN
Liang Hao IBiS My research interest lies in the relationships between structure and function of proteins or catalytic RNAs, as well as their intracellular biological role, i.e. how the interactions between nucleic acids and proteins dominate gene expression and regulation, which finally result in the biologicial complexity.

Marilyn Wells IGP I am interested in the viral cell cycle. I am specifically interested in the interactions involved between the target cell and associated factors involved in viral cell entry.
