- Devising Performance: Directing, Collaboration and Site-Specific work.
Site-specific performance is an area of theatrical practice that is emerging as a frequent point of exploration at the intersection of audience engagement, experimental form and participation. This class investigates place, performer/audience contract, and dramaturgical vision as starting impulses in the process of building performance in partnership with architecture. The class will include 3 graduate student directors, (MFA 1st years), 2-3 MFA writers, 1-3 MFA designers, and 10-18 undergraduate theater, performance studies and dance majors (all need a permission number from the instructor). It will be a project-based class; there will be three small-group assignments spread over the quarter, each led by a Graduate Student Director, and each in relation to a different starting impulse.
