Over 83% of Northwestern University graduates were employed or in graduate school at time of graduation. More than 53% were employed (4.5% increase over 2004 employment results), 23.4% were continuing their education in graduate or professional school, less than 17% were seeking employment at the time of graduation and 6.3% were traveling or doing volunteer and community service.

Use of University Career Services Helps Students Achieve Career Goals

Students who used Career Services were two times more likely to be employed upon graduation than students who did not use University Career Services. Close to 62% of NU students used University Career Services during their academic career at Northwestern. Over 56% used NU job listings, more than half attended NU career fairs, and 40% participated in on-campus recruiting services.

Significant correlations exist among post-graduate employment and the use of different job search strategies. Four of the Northwestern University-based job search methods (i.e. career services, NU Job listings, NU Campus interviews, and NU Career Fair) were significantly correlated with post-graduate employment and these NU-provided search strategies represent the strongest relationships with employment compared to all other search strategies.

Additionally, close to 52% of graduates spent 1 to 8 weeks actively seeking employment and 28% spent 9 to 16 weeks conducting a job search. The number and percent of students and the amount of time they spent in an active job search is comparable to 2004 figures.
