Career Resources for Master's Degree Students

Master's degree programs provide specialized training and applied knowledge in a particular area of study through coursework, research and/or internship experiences.  Master's programs at Northwestern typically range from 1-3 years in length.  The background of students enrolled in master's programs varies from those who recently completed an undergraduate degree to working professionals with extensive career experience.

The career advising needs of master's students differ based on your unique background and the structure of your academic program.  UCS provides support to meet your stage of your career journey.  Our services are meant to complement the career guidance and resources you may already receive from your academic department.

The same strategies that UCS recommends for career success apply to undergraduate and graduate students.  However, particular to your degree level, you will be expected to demonstrate more subject matter knowledge, advanced skill sets, and greater professionalism.  Also, in contrast to other degree levels, master's students often need to quickly engage in their post-graduation planning and job search due to the concentrated timeline.
