The Graduate School offers a wide range of resources and programs intended to contribute to the professional development of graduate students:   

Management for Scientists and Engineers

A certificate program offered through a collaboration by the Kellogg School of Management and The Graduate School. The program equips promising doctoral students in engineering and the life and physical sciences with business and leadership skills.

Professional and Presentation Skills

This series of lectures and one-on-one coaching sessions for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows focuses on the development of presentation skills necessary for success in the professional world.

Ready, Set, Go

A Summer Step Communication Fellowship Program: An intensive summer workshop designed to improve the oral communication and presentation skills of graduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The Writing Place

The Graduate Writing Place offers many resources for graduate students, including appointments with peer writing consultants, cross-disciplinary writing workshops, grant and fellowship proposal writing workshops, and dissertation boot camps.

Civic Engagement, GEO – Community Practicum

The Center for Civic Engagement offers a quarter-long internship for PhD students interested in working for a community organization while learning about the role of public intellectuals in civic life.

Teaching Support Services

The Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching offers a vast array of resources for graduate students, including workshops, a teaching certificate program, and teaching assistance and consultation.
