  • Idealist – This site provides information on over 51,000 nonprofit and community organizations in 165 countries, which you can search or browse by name and/or location. It provides thousands of volunteer opportunities in your community and around the world, as well as extensive paid opportunities. They provide information on current topics and issues plus provides information on current non-profit career fairs and graduate school fairs located throughout the country and conferences. First called the Contact Center Network, Action Without Borders was founded in 1995 to build a network of neighborhood Contact Centers that would provide a one-stop shop for volunteer opportunities and nonprofit services in communities around the world. Idealist, was launched in the summer of 1996 allowing any nonprofit or community organization - whether it has a website or not - to have a presence on the Web through which to promote its mission and activities.
  • Foundations Organizations - This site provides a directory of foundations and grantmakers plus a directory of community foundations and links to their sites.
  • Geekcorps -  Geekcorps, a division of IESC, promotes economic growth in the developing world by sending highly skilled technology volunteers to teach communities how to use innovative and affordable information and communication technologies to solve development problems. Lists volunteer opportunities.
  • VolunteerMatch (formerly known as Impact Online) is dedicated to helping everyone find a great place to volunteer. The organization offers a variety of online services to support a community of nonprofit, volunteer and business leaders committed to civic engagement. This site allows you to search for volunteer opportunities by your zip code and interest area.
  • Institute for Global Communications – IGC offers links to various nonprofit online resources. Information also includes tips on advocacy for nonprofits, as well as links to related job/volunteer opportunities.   • Americorps – AmeriCorps is a network of local, state, and national service programs that connects more than 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet our country’s critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment.
  • American Society of Association Executives – ASAE, known as the association of associations, is considered the advocate for the nonprofit sector. The society is dedicated to advancing the value of voluntary associations to society and supporting the professionalism of the individuals who lead them. Founded in 1920 as the American Trade Association Executives, with 67 charter members, ASAE now has 25,000 individual members who manage leading trade, professional, and philanthropic associations. ASAE represents.
  • Association Forum of Chicagoland – Founded in 1916, the Association Forum of Chicagoland is the "association of associations" for more than 1,500 business, charitable, civic and professional organizations headquartered in the Chicagoland area.
  • Brookings Institution - The Brookings Institution is a private nonprofit organization devoted to independent research and innovative policy solutions. Celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2006, Brookings analyzes current and emerging issues and produces new ideas that matter - for the nation and the world.
  • The Donors Forum of Chicago - The Donors Forum of Chicago is a resource for networking and education, information and knowledge, and leadership on behalf of philanthropy in the region. As a nonprofit membership association of grantmakers, individual donors and advisors, the Donors Forum advances philanthropy by serving its members and by promoting an effective and informed nonprofit sector.  Provides extensive resources online as well as at their location/resource library in Chicago.  The Donors Forum also provides Nonprofit workshops and programs for grantmakers.
  • The Foundation Center - The Center collects, organizes, and communicates information on U.S. philanthropy. They conduct and facilitate research on trends in the field, provide education and training on the grantseeking process, and ensure public access to information and services. Founded in 1956, the Center is dedicated to serving grantseekers, grantmakers, researchers, policymakers, the media, and the general public.
  • The Learning Institute for Nonprofit Organizations - This organization was founded in 1996 as a program of the Society for Nonprofit Organizations.  The goal of the Learning Institute is to provide affordable, accessible educational programs for all involved in the nonprofit sector.  They offer programs via the internet. They have partnered with organizations like: United Way of America, PBS, University of Wisconsin - Extension, Michigan State University, and Computer User Technologies (CPUTEC). 
  • National Council of Nonprofit Associations – (NCNA) is the network of state and regional nonprofit associations serving over 22,000 members in 45 states and the District of Columbia. NCNA links local organizations to a national audience through state associations and helps small and mid-sized nonprofits.   • Chronicle of Philanthropy - The Chronicle of Philanthropy is the newspaper of the nonprofit world. It is the key news source, in print and online, for charity leaders, fund raisers, grant makers, and other people involved in the philanthropic enterprise. In print, The Chronicle is published biweekly except the first two weeks in July and the last two weeks in December (a total of 24 issues a year). A subscription includes full access to this Web site and news updates by e-mail -- all at no extra charge. An online-only subscription is also available. The Web site offers the complete contents of the latest issue, an archive of past issues and articles published since October 1997, and two issues' worth of the most recent grant listings -- all fully searchable.  (This publication can be found in the University Career Services Career Resources Library)
