Banking Interviews - What are they looking for?

  • Personality fit:

Proof of work ethic, leadership, teamwork, and professionalism.
Ability to handle pressure and maintain composure.

  • ANYTHING on your resume, especially previous financial services experiences
  • Evidence of your interest in the field:
    • Why iBanking?
    • Why our firm?
    • What do the different departments do and how do they work together?
    • Related internships?
    • Long term career goals?
  • Evidence of quantitative skills, economics, logic, and financial theory:
  • Knowledge and ability to use financial terms comfortably and correctly
  • Accounting concepts-gross margins
  • Financial ratios-liquidity ratios
  • Financial concepts-beta
  • Investment models-capital asset pricing model
  • Business theory-Porter's five forces
  • Company valuation techniques
  • Knowledge and understanding of:
    • Favorite stocks
    • Outlook on the market
  • 2nd round interviews- you can expect to interview with at least 3 or more people

Research = Attention to detail
Banking = Ability to work long hours and travel
