meeting with one of UCS' career counselors who can help you address:
- Your major and/or career choice
- The assessment of your interests, values, and skills as they related to major
and career choice
- Your graduate and professional school decision including , application procedures,
and writing your personal statement
- What type of internship or summer employment might be a good fit for you employment
search
- Any personal factors that may be impacting your ability to move forward with
your career development
Our Primary Goal
Our primary goal is to help you learn more about yourself and the world of
work and careers so that you can make informed and intentional major and career
choices. We will do this by working collaboratively with and by using a career
development process.
What You Can Expect From UCS Career Counselors
You can expect your career counselor to:
- Maintain complete confidentiality
- Listen carefully and empathetically
- Help you identify and/or clarify your career concerns and needs
- Utilize appropriate career assessments and resources
- Refer you to resources, programs or other professionals, as appropriate
What UCS Career Counselors Expect From You
Career counseling process is highly collaborative and requires your active
participation. You are expected to:
- If a first time user, come for a brief Walk-In session before making a career
counseling appointment
- Register on CareerCat and MonsterTRAK
- Make an appointment with a career counselor by calling 847.491.3700
- Arrive on time for your appointment or call to cancel or reschedule if needed
- Communicate your questions and concerns with your counselor in a collaborative
manner
- Complete any assignments you and your counselor decide upon
To Meet With a Career Counselor
If you have never been to our office, your first step is to come for a brief "Walk-In" session
at your convenience Tuesday - Friday between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. Here
you will receive a brief overview of our office and services and be given our
UCS Career Guide. Following this you may make an appointment with a career
counselor. Appointments are scheduled for one hour and are made by calling
847.491.3700.
