Troubleshooting: System Errors and Messages
Below we have listed frequently asked questions regarding CAESAR system errors and messages. Click on a question to get more information.

Q: I'm trying to access E-Bill & E-Payment and I run into a 500 Internal Server Error, what does this mean?
A:
If upon clicking on the Quikpay link on the E-Bill & E-Payment page you receive the following error message in the new page that opens, you have no bill in the QuikPay system. You may have not been billed yet. Bills are sent on the 10th of every month. For additional questions please contact the Office of Student Accounts.

Q: I'm trying to log in to CAESAR from off-campus and am getting a "page cannot be displayed" error. What can I do to fix this?
A:
The "page cannot be displayed" error usually indicates a network or DNS problem with your workstation and/or internet service provider (ISP). If this turns out to be the problem, you should consult with your ISP and/or workstation support to confirm that your workstation configuration is correct and that you can connect to the CAESAR server at <https://www.ent.northwestern.edu/> (IP address 129.105.213.253). There are some other things that you can try first though. First, try clearing your browser cookies and temporary internet files, and reset your browser settings (see instructions here). Second, try connecting to the NU network (using VPN or the NU modem pool) and see if you can access CAESAR when connected to the NU network. Running a network trace (for example, you can run "tracert 129.105.213.253" from the Windows command prompt or "traceroute 129.105.213.253" from the Terminal application in Mac OS X) and DNS lookup ("nslookup www.ent.northwestern.edu") can help provide troubleshooting information. If you need further assistance, contact the Help Line 847/491-HELP(4357) or e-mail caesar@northwestern.edu.

Q: I login into CAESAR and see in the 'Open Holds and To Dos' section, "Error Getting Content 9999" What can I do to fix this?
A:
The "Error Getting Content 9999" occurs because the page is searching for content that is stored in a session cookie. When there is no cookie then the following error results. This can be corrected by logging out of Caesar, closing your browser, reopening a new browser, and then login in again.
