Troubleshooting: Browser Compatibility
If you run into any problems or errors as you use CAESAR, these pages can help.

Below we have listed frequently asked questions regarding browser compatibility and CAESAR. Click on a question to get more information.

Q: What browsers work best with CAESAR?
A:
CAESAR works best with Internet Explorer 6 and Netscape 6.2 on Windows workstations, Netscape 6.2 on Macintosh workstations, and Netscape Communicator 4.72 on UNIX and Linux workstations. There are some problems with CAESAR on Safari 1.2 . There are some minor problems with CAESAR on Mozilla and Firefox, but Mozilla and Firefox should be generally usable with CAESAR.
Other browsers may not work with CAESAR and we may be unable to resolve problems with them.

Q: The "Processing" graphic keeps flashing, and the page never loads. What should I do?
Q: Internet Explorer keeps reporting "Error on page" and I can't seem to click on any links to get anything to load. What should I do?
A:
This is usually caused by a Javascript problem in Internet Explorer. Reset your Javascript preferences. Go to the Tools menu, select Internet Options, click on the Advanced tab, then click on the "Restore Defaults" button. Click OK, then quit and restart your browser and try again.
Netscape can have problems with corrupted cache and bad cookies. For example, if your browser cache gets corrupted, the "Processing" graphic may just flash and CAESAR pages may never finish loading. Clearing your browser cache, removing all cookies, and then quitting and restarting your browser will resolve this problem.

Q: I'm using a supported browser and I'm still having a problem, what else can I try?
A:
Sometimes it is helpful to reset your browser to its default configuration. Clear your browser's temporary internet files (also known as cache), delete all cookies, and quit and restart your browser. Directions for Netscape, Internet Explorer and Safari are available below.

Q: I'm using Internet Explorer. How do I clear my temporary internet files and cookies?
A:
Go to your browser's Tools menu and select Internet Options. Under the General tab, locate the middle section, labelled Temporary Internet files. Click the Delete Cookies button, then click the Delete Files button. Click OK, then quit and restart your browser.

Q: I'm using Netscape. How do I clear my browser cache and cookies?
A:
Go to your browser's Edit menu and click Preferences. Under the Advanced category, select the Cache subcategory. Click the "Clear Cache" button on the Cache panel. Under the Privacy & Security category, select the Cookies subcategory. Click the "Manage Stored Cookies" button on the Cookies panel, then click on the "Remove All Cookies" button on the Cookie Manager panel. Click Close, click OK, then quit and restart your browser.

Q: I'm using Safari 1.2. How do I clear my browser cache and cookies?
A:
Go to your browser's Safari menu and select "Reset Safari" to clear your browser history, cache, and cookies all at once. Click "Reset" on the confirmation dialog to complete this process. If you don't want to clear your browser's history, you can go to "Preferences" under the Safari menu and clear cache under "Advanced" and cookies under "Privacy & Security".

Q: What are the known problems with Mozilla and Firefox?
A:
Mozilla and Firefox browsers have some minor problems that occur after you click the link for a CAESAR function. You may get a dialog box with the message: "Redirection limit for this URL exceeded. Unable to load requested page." The page you want will load successfully if you click OK and try again. In other cases the left-hand menu may collapse. However, you should still be able to re-expand the menu and proceed normally.

Q: I'm using the Safari web browser on a Mac and I'm having problems using CAESAR. What can I do?
A:
Safari 1.2 users have reported problems using the 'Class Search' and 'Record Grades' functions in CAESAR.
We are working to resolve these problems. In general, we've found that Netscape (available from <http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/download.jsp>) works well for CAESAR on Macs and we recommend using Netscape at this time.
