Training on any instrument in BIF is available to those who are interested.
Training is through appointment and depends on the availability of the instrument — please plan accordingly.
Our goal is to place you in training as quickly as possible, but keep in mind that we do have limited space in each training session, so we ask that you be patient during the times we have an influx of training requests.

Training Application & Procedure
Before requesting information, please use the links to the left to find out basic information regarding training for each instrument.

BIF is no longer accepting verbal requests for training. All requests must be made in writing (via email) to BIF Staff (j-bufkin@northwestern.edu). Any verbal request will be treated as an inquiry and no reservation or confirmation will be made. If you have questions, please contact BIF staff.

Upon requesting training, you will be asked to download and complete either the New User Application form or the User Project Application form. (These forms can be found here.) Bring this with you for your first training session.

Once you have been confirmed for training, you will need to set up an account on the scheduling software. Your NU netID and password are used to log into this system.

Any person wishing to use either of the Confocal systems must complete the Office for Research Safety's Basic Laser Safety Training. Please bring your completed Laser Operator Registration form to BIF (Hogan 5-150) as soon as you have finished your training.
